Fees For Immigration Matters

We understand that fees remain a big consideration for most clients as they want to know the potential cost in order to make an informed decision regarding whether to proceed or not. We therefore strive to provide clear fee estimation from the onset while adopting a transparent fee policy. No fees will be incurred on your behalf without your consent.

Our charges, like those of all solicitors, are based on a number of different factors. These include the time spent, the skills, specialised knowledge and responsibility required of the members of the firm handling the matter, the complexity and difficulty of the questions involved, and the circumstances in which the work is carried out.

The most important of these factors is the amount of time spent by members of the firm in dealing with your case. All such time spent is recorded in 6-minute units and charged at an hourly rate based upon the seniority and experience of the person undertaking the work. Our charges will also explain the experience and qualifications of anyone carrying out the work, and of their supervisors; a description of, and the cost of, any likely disbursements, and where the actual cost of a disbursement is not known, the average cost or range of costs;

The current hourly rates of our staff are set out below:

Solicitors/legal executive with over 8 years’ experience – £282.00

Solicitors/legal executives with over 4 years’ experience – £232.00

Solicitors/legal executives /fee earners of equivalent experience – £185.00 to £210.

Trainee solicitors, paralegals and other fee earners – £129.00

We also offer one-off fixed/agreed fees for advice and assistance. The costs will be agreed before we commence work.

Our standard consultation fee is £100, plus VAT (if applicable) for a one-hour consultation. During this time, we will endeavour to establish the full details of your matter and take your full instruction. We will advise you on the options available to you and provide a costs-benefit analysis of these options. You will also have time to ask any question that you may have about your matter and our advice.

We cannot offer legal advice over the phone or by email prior to being formally engaged as your legal representative, but our solicitors and legal consultants are happy to understand your matter over the phone/ by email and offer a consultation if it is required.

Fixed Fees

In many cases, once we have reviewed your situation, we will be able to fix the costs of your case. This means that we will charge you a fixed fee for your case, even if the work on your application takes longer than anticipated, provided that there are no unforeseen complications or significant changes to your instructions. The fixed fee will not include any disbursements, such as Home Office fees or VAT. If the matter is terminated before completion (for example if you are unable to provide documents requested or you withdraw your instructions) we will charge for the time spent at our usual hourly rates.  Any additional work required outside the scope of the fixed fee will be charged on an hourly basis unless otherwise agreed. If such work is required, we will inform you and provide an estimate.

Value Added Tax VAT

Value added tax (VAT) has to be added to our fees and all disbursements. This applies if your usual place of residence is in the UK, including if you had leave to remain in the UK but overstayed. If you are not resident in the UK, or you entered the country without permission or as an asylum seeker and do not yet have leave to remain, you are not normally liable to pay VAT.

Disbursements

In addition to our costs, you will be responsible for paying costs payable to another organisation which are incurred by us on your behalf, such as Home Office application fees, the Immigration Health Surcharge if applicable, Tribunal and Court fees, barristers’ fees, expert report fees, interpreter/translation costs, our travel costs (if we have to travel outside our office on your behalf, for example to a Tribunal hearing or to the Home Office) and courier costs.

The Home Office has recently introduced an online application scheme for many applications, in conjunction with a commercial partner, Sopra Steria which charges additional fees for various services, including speedier processing times. The fees for the priority service are £500, and for the super priority service are £800.  The fee for the standard service depends on the type of application.

We can advise you about the costs of these additional services. In most applications, we are advised not to contact the Home Office in the first 6months of application, but if after 6 months the Home Office have not made a decision on the application, the case worker responsible for your matter will be writing to the Home Office every 2 months to inquire of the progress in your matter,
